As some of you may know, a while ago I stumbled across a Brisbane guy named Peter Laurent who was trying to rank for the keywords ‘Best Looking Man In Brisbane’.
I thought that this was pretty funny and thought it would be fun to take the piss and rank for the term myself.
After weaving some SEO magic, my name was ranking at the top for the term. Coincidentally I met the other Peter at a Brisbane bloggers meetup, we had a few beers and shared a laugh about the rankings and it didn’t take long before I forgot about it.
Since then, two other people have jumped-on the bandwagon and started ranking for the term, which I imagine prompted the other Peter to get back on the horse and once-again promote himself as the Best Looking Man In Brisbane.
Now he’s claiming that it was a ‘competition’ to rank for the term(s):
Best Looking Man In Brisbane
Best Looking Guy In Brisbane
Sexiest Man In Brisbane
And probably a bunch of other long-tail terms that surround Brisbane and Looking Good.
So because I no longer rank as highly, one could surmise I am ‘losing’ said competition. So I wanted to take this opportunity to say that while it initially was a bit of fun and good for my online reputation, I’m not actively ‘competing’ to rank for terms like ‘Best Looking Man In Brisbane’.
Not because I don’t think I can (as we’ve already proven this isn’t the case) but because I can no longer see much justification in wasting time trying to rank for such a non-competitive term that generates little-to-no traffic and has no financial benefits.
So Pete, I’m happy to let you take the crown as Brisbane’s Best Looking Man for now, because you and I both know that while we can fool the search engines into believing that we’re good looking, we’re not fooling anyone else

It’s not really a competition, it’s just a bit of fun, and a slight viral marketing PR stunt… ssshhhh don’t tell anyone I’d hate to let the secret out of the bag.
