If you’re wondering why it’s taken me over a week to post something - read the heading of the post and you might start to understand why.
On Friday night we had our regular monthly alcoholic gathering which (as usual) combined friendly banter, good conversation and (for some… which included me) - copious amounts of alcohol. Can’t wait until next months gathering and for those of you who didn’t attend this one - stop being slack and come along.
Saturday was spent recovering… and Sunday was Father’s day which was one of the few good points about the day.
As my powers of persuasion aren’t quite as honed as Obi Wan’s, it has taken me a year-and-a-half of regular blogging to convince others it’s a good thing. Fortunately a few people have taken the hint and started their own blogs. Kristy now has one and has posted a far better review of Father’s Day than I could. On Sunday afternoon / evening our Windows server finally decided to pack-it-in and I spent the evening trying to get it online again (which turned-out to be futile) so we completely replaced it on Monday. Here’s the official story: Windows Webserver Outage … since replacing the server I’ve been frantically migrating sites from the old box onto the new one (that was Monday)… Tuesday was spent getting some of the other features like ASP, .Net, Frontpage extensions etc. etc. all working again. Today (Wednesday) I attempted to get statistics going, JMail, CDONTS and a few other bits and pieces. I think it’s 98% sorted so hopefully tomorrow I can apply the finishing touches and all will go back to normal.
The thing that made this outage even more enjoyable was the fact that I was hit with a nasty case of the shits (I know that’s not very politically correct… but you tend to become less graceful when you’re stressed, your stomach feels like you’ve just gone a few rounds with Cassius Clay and are terrified of pooing yourself every time you cough or sneeze). Fortunately I didn’t crap myself over this period, but there were a few close calls.
As a side-note, diarrhea is the best excuse for taking days off work - the moment you tell your boss that you’ve got ‘the runs’ they don’t ask any more questions… this tidbit of info is only useful if your boss is someone other than yourself… so for me it didn’t make a lick of difference.
So anyways, the last few days haven’t been the most fun… but all is looking good again now.
