Centenary Rocks Park

Posted on Wednesday 11 July 2007

A couple of months ago Mel told me about a park that was near her place and I had been meaning to check it out, but never gotten around to it… until now..

On Saturday Kristy and I went shopping at Indooroopilly (well Kristy went shopping and Caleb and I got a hair cut)… and on our way back I remembered the park that Mel mentioned and suggested that we try and find it. Fortunately Kristy was navigating and managed to find it pretty easily (if she wasn’t there I probably would still be driving around looking right now) and as far as parks go, this one was pretty good.

What makes a park good? I really don’t know… but this one had the following features that I thought were pretty impressive:

- It was really big… Lots of areas to kick a ball around and a nice long walking / bike track
- It had an interesting theme… The park is located in an industrial area and up until a few years ago the land was used as a cement processing plant. So instead of clearing the whole area, they left old bits and pieces from the plant artistically placed throughout park with various plaques telling about the history of the place.
- There was some play stuff for the kids but it wasn’t overdone so even if you don’t have a child, there’s still plenty of reasons to go there and relax or exercise.

So overall it was nice to go to a park that I otherwise wouldn’t have known existed if it weren’t for Mel…

Here’s some pics I took with my phone (not great quality, but you get the idea):
